David Wilkerson and School Shootings in Finland

David Wilkerson is one of God's watchmen whom America and Finland should give close attention. In June 2001 he said at a press conference that Finland would have the same school shootings that have occurred in the United States. It was the same summer that he received a word from the Lord about a tragic event in the very near future. Whether the disaster would be natural or otherwise, Wilkerson did not know.

He cancelled the rest of his church's summer schedule, including the missions and youth conferences, and held prayer meetings instead. Then the predicted events happened with rapidity and acute severity. In September terrorists attacked the World Trade Center and the capital. In 2007 and 2008 Finland experienced the Jokela and Kauhajoki school shootings.

We are facing, I'm just speaking out of my heart now. I've been trying to warn the United States, been prophecying for so long, that a great depression is coming to America, and our country is shaking right now. Japan is on the brink of depression; it's gonna be the whole world. I started preaching this about five years ago, and I've written two books on it recently. And I stood in a church once of about five thousand, mostly pastors, warning and pouring out my heart.

And after the service, some of my associates came up to me. They overheard some of the pastors speaking about me, they were saying something like this, "I'm not gonna preach that foolishness from my pulpit. America is gonna be blessed; there is no judgement coming." And I was--I left heartbroken, because this was in a very prosperous American city. People focused on things, on material things, and the Prosperity Gospel creeping into our churches. You say "wait a minute Dave, you switched gears on us. You preached joy, now you're scaring us." Just hold on, you'll see where I'm going.

But you see, one of these days, it's gonna happen just as it did in the United States. Within three months, our NASDAQ fell fifty percent; three thousand points down, and then nobody was laughing at me anymore.

I was asked at the press conference, "What do you see coming?" You probably will not see gay marriages condoned this year, but it's coming, and it will pass eventually. You're going to see in your schools here in Finland the same thing that we're seeing in our schools now; you're going to see the mass murders, you're going to see all of this. I warned years ago when I was here about a drug plague coming and it came. And just 35 years ago, the three major problems here in our schools was: chewing gum, getting out of line in class, and a failure to do the homework. Those were the top three programs--ah--problems. Then we outlawed God from our schools. Three main problems now: murder, violence, drug addiction. The moment we move God out of our schools, this nation--Finland is going pell-mell in the same direction.

There's a rage in our high schools and our junior high schools: guns and violence. Many of our schools have metal detectors; you can't get into class unless you go through metal detectors. The day's not far, you're going to weep like we're weeping. But I want to tell you something, the bible makes it very clear, when you see all of these things coming upon the earth, look up, and rejoice, because your redemption draws nigh. -David Wilkerson, Helsinki Spiritual Development Seminar June 2001 (Hengellisen Rakentaminen Seminaari Kesäkuu 2001)

footbridge

for those of you who enjoy hiking in the columbia river gorge, i recommend wahclella falls for a short walk and attractive scenery. the trail follows tanner creek for a mile and terminates at wahclella falls. there is an elevation gain that will not challenge able-bodied persons.

my move to finland

i am moving to finland where my wife spent the first 20 years of her life. it is the place where things can be found such as ice sailing, reindeer, and the manufacturing town of nokia. i have any number of reasons to move there, but no really good excuse. consideration for my wife's love of her country combined with the attraction for me of some place exciting and strange is enough draw me over the arctic to a new land.

i will seek employment in accounting, possibly with a small creative firm that practices engineering or architecture. my plane departs monday morning. we'll see what happens!

how to injure your back for life

yesterday i helped a friend move his hot tub onto a trailer. it weighed about a thousand pounds. it took four guys to lift it and another two to spot and guide us from the back yard to the trailer in the driveway. we used two truck straps with big loops tied at the ends. each loop went over the shoulder of a weight-bearing individual. each strap went under the tub so that all we had to do was straighten our knees to lift the tub.

we had to stand the tub on one side to get it through the narrow space at the side of the house, so balance was key. really, six guys was not enough because the tub received some cosmetic damage from all the dragging. i am sincerely glad that the heavy tub injured no backs or knees, although i am sure that some soreness followed.

the strap left a big raspberry across my shoulder and back, which i did not notice until today. some other schmoe had a similar experience.
